As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Philippians 1:1-11 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.Fellowship is like being in the Navy. There are different levels of fellowship. The first level is the common bond that all sailors have. They have a unique perspective on life and the world and through the common experiences that they have by being part of the Navy and having been on a ship at sea. We share a common and unique bond through being saved and having the Holy Spirit of God in our lives.
The second level of fellowship is two fellows on a ship together. Being shipmates creates a special bond through the common experience of working together and going places together. This is the fellowship of being in the same church together. We will always have that bond of serving together.
The third level of fellowship comes from spending time together. Sometimes two sailors on the same ship never even see each other because they are working in different areas of the ship or are on two different shifts. Christian sailors tell me that they have to make an effort to get together with other Christians when they are at sea. They are so busy that it seems like there is never time to get together. Life is the same way. We have to make the choice to have meaningful fellowship. Make the time today.
