As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

I Peter 4:7-11 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.Often, when you hear someone being called a “user”, what they mean is that that person uses and abuses drugs. I do not want to be addicted to drugs, but I should be addicted to the ministry of hospitality. I Corinthians 16:15 says “I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints.” Paul says that through their ministry “they have refreshed my spirit and yours.” (verse 17). That is really what hospitality is all about; just being a blessing and an encouragement to others.
Addicts cannot go very long without a fix. When is the last time you practiced hospitality? They are willing to pay whatever it costs. Often, the complaint that I hear is that it is so expensive to have people over. Their lives revolve around their addiction. Do you see someone and think, “How can I be a blessing to them?
The passage tells us that we should especially use our gifts in the ministry of Hospitality. What is your gift? Some of them are listed in I Corinthians 12:7-11 and again in Romans 12:6-8. “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.” (I Corinthians 12:1) There are many ways that we can use our gifts to be a blessing to others. Sit down and make a list today.
