As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Galatians 6:1-10 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden. Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

I used to laugh at a saying someone once said in college that went, “The Bible tells me I have to love you but it doesn’t tell me that I have to like you.” That saying I believe is partly true. In John 13:34 is says “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” Than if we read in verse 2 of our passage, “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” The Bible makes here a clear command for us to love one another. It is not optional for the Christian. In fact if sin is anything that goes against God’s Word than to choose not to love would be sin. To choose to ignore another brother’s or sister’s need would be sin. To choose not to offer a helping hand or to choose not to be that listening ear when someone is hurting is sin.

Our passage tells us in verse 5, “For every man shall bear his own burden.” As we try and lift up our brothers or sisters may we not get into the trap of comparing ourselves with anyone else. We are told in verse 4, “But let every man prove his own work.” We will give an account for the things we have done and not for anyone else’s. Our standard of living is not others but Christ. Christ left us His example that we might follow Him.

When we love one another we will learn to like each other is what I would tell that person who said the quote from above. God commands it so we should probably do it. Who are you seeking out to love and be a blessing to? Who feels loved by you? I don’t mean your husband or wife or kids but maybe that one who isn’t so lovable. Maybe the one who sits in church and isn’t the most popular person everyone talks to. Than may we catch ourselves before we start to compare ourselves with others as we try and help them. Something I like to pray often is, “God I know you love me so much and may I allow Your love to exude through my life.”

Love you all!!!

Pastor Mike
