As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Daniel. 2:16-23 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
It is always a good thing to have someone whom we can call upon in times of need and trouble. God should be the ultimate One to call upon when we need help or in times of trials and tribulations (Jer.33:3, Psalm 55:22, 1Pet.5:7 just to name a few). I believe, however, that God also made it very clear to us that loneliness is not good for us. Therefore He said in Genesis 2:18 "And the Lord God said, It is not good that a man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." I know that this mainly applies to husband and wife relationships but the principle can also apply to friendship or companionship as a whole. The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 "Two are better than one: because they have a good reward for their labour. For I they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up."
Here in our text, we see that there was a huge problem. The king was very upset that no one was able to reveal his dream and the interpretation of it. The magicians, astrologers, and the Chaldeans were not smart enough to reveal his dream. They even told him that they could not interpret it if they do not know what his dream was. Daniel 2:11 says "And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh." Because of this everyone was in trouble especially the wise men including Daniel. There was a decree from the king that all the wise men should be slained. But we see in verses 17-18 "Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Han-a-niah, Mish'a-el, and Az-a-ri'ah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon." Daniel went to his companions and asked them to pray for him regarding this matter. Beside God, who else do you go to when you need help or prayer? We need people who we can go to and ask them to pray for us. When was the last time you prayed with someone who is going through life’s trials? If we all want to experience the awesome power of God together, we need to work together and spend time together in the Lord.

In Christ,

Pastor Anter
