Daniel 3:8-21 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever. Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated. And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
As you know, Daniel and his friends have gone through many trials and difficulties but they did not backslide. In fact they drew closer to God in the midst of their trials. We as 20th century Christians also experience difficulties in our lives. These trials could either make us better or bitter in our Christian lives. Do not lose heart my brethren, Romans 8: 35-37 says "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword? As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long: we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." Yes, we are more than conquerors in Christ and I believe that Daniel knew this by heart. I believe that Daniel could have taken the stand alone because it shows that in Daniel 1:6-8. However, I also believe that knowing that he has friends that would also stand for God encouraged him to move on.
The above verses show the importance of fellowshipping with the correct friends. Daniel was around good friends that loved God like he did. I believed that they influenced each other to do good for the glory of God no matter what situation they were in at that time. Daniel also had constant fellowship with his true friend, God. When the going gets tough we need God to be there for us. John 15:5 "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." Daniel was able to stand because he was consistently abiding in the vine. Daniel and his friends had faith in God that he would deliver them and even if he did not; they still trusted on him. They believed that God is powerful and nothing is too hard for him.
The above verses also showed the importance of fellowshipping with God in prayer. Daniel prayed three times a day and his friends did the same. They prayed more in the middle of trials. In verse 17, we read that they told the King that they believed that their God would deliver them from the burning fiery furnace. The result of consistent fellowshipping with God through prayer is victory. If you continue to be true to God's word and serve him, he will never leave you nor forsake you. Be consistent with your fellowship with God, pray and ask Him for wisdom to help you in your decision and in your goals in life. Do not let anything hinder your sweet fellowship with your Saviour.
