The Ohana Daily Devotional is intended as a supplement to our annual devotional book. We encourage you to pick one up at the church if you do not already have one. The email goes out each morning to all those who have requested it. It is also available here, for those who prefer to visit our site to read it, or if you would like to catch up on past days devotionals.
If you would like to receive a copy each morning in your email, or you may also subscribe to our RSS Feed.
Isaiah 42:8-12 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
Ohana Baptist Church is well known across the mainland U.S. and in many places around the world. We are known across the United States because we have so many former members spread out across the country. Evangelist John Goetsch has told me that he hardly goes anywhere where someone doesn’t come and tell him that they were at Ohana or visited Ohana. We have had the privilege of influencing many lives for the Lord here at Ohana.
We are known throughout the world by missionaries that we have helped at different times. Hawaii is often called the “Cross-roads of the Pacific”. That may be true politically and in the area of commerce, but it is especially true for Missions. Many of our missionaries have found a home at Ohana as they are passing through our islands on the way to or from the mission field. Many of them even consider this their second home away from home. Is your home open to the missionaries and their families for a place to stay or a meal or just a haven of rest and fellowship?
We have also been able to help some of the Missionaries through the U.S. Postal system. The Micronesian islands are in our postal zone. We are able to send them up to 70 lbs. of non-perishable food and personal items for about $17.00. It goes by slow-boat, but it gets there eventually. Our $1.00 spent here can save them up to $5.00 there and some items they cannot get for any price. They have often told us that it is like Christmas when they get a box from Ohana.
Of course we also support the Missionaries through prayer and financial support. Paul asked the Ephesians (6:19) to pray “for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.” To pray for him effectively they needed to “know my affairs” (Ephesians 6:21). We have a unique opportunity to know and understand the needs of the Missionaries through the multi-cultural make-up of the islands and our church. We understand better than most Americans what it is like to be on a foreign field.
Ohana has always given a high proportion of our budget to Missions. Our goal, each year, is to increase our giving. This month we will be asking you to make a financial commitment to Missions. Please pray about what you can give so that we can continue to declare His praise throughout the world from this island!
