As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

About Ohana's Daily Devotional

Acts 13:1-5 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

The question for today is “What were the church, Paul, and Barnabas doing when God called them to go?” The answer is very simple: They were “in the church”. This is where God wants all of us to be; in the “the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” (I Timothy 3:15). Each of us is called by the Holy Ghost to be “separate… for the work whereunto God has called”. Some, like missionaries, are called to be sent away to foreign fields and others are called to be faithful “in the church” here at home. Either way all of us have a calling of God. Are you fulfilling your calling?

Notice also that it was the church that set out Paul and Barnabas. This is Missions Month at Ohana Baptist Church. This is when we make or financial commitment to send missionaries out “into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Acts 1:8). Paul commended the church at Philippi because they “sent once and again unto my necessity” (Philippians 4:16). God has given us much “fruit that (has abounded) to (our) account” this year and I believe that it is a direct result of this churches love and support for missions. If we want God to continue to bless us with fruit, then we nee to keep sending to Missionaries. Are you ready to send or be sent?

Aloha in Christ,

Pastor Wayne
