As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?"
We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Philippians 4:10-23 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you. All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
When I was still a young Christian whenever I read Philippians 4:19, I often found myself happy knowing that my God will supply all my needs. Although this is a very good promise to claim, I never thought or knew of its true meaning. Yes, there are many places in Bible where we can find God’s promises to take good care of His dear children but I came to find out that verse 19 was not for everyone but only for those who gave to mission or support God’s work. We see in our text that Paul through the inspiration of God expressed his gratitude to brethren in Philippi because of how they supported him while preaching God’s word at Macedonia and elsewhere. In verses 15-16 he said “Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.” So because of that he assured them that his God will supply all their needs according to His riches.
Brethren, if we want God to supply our needs, we must be willing to give and support our missionaries. Acts 20:35 says “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Let’s keep in mind that blessings come when we give not just our money but our lives to God as a living sacrifice and also our time in serving God in our local churches. We may not be able to go to a foreign country as a missionary to share God’s word but through our financial support and prayer for our missionaries we can be partakers of the blessings that God has for them. But just the act of giving alone is not enough. We need to make sure that we do it for the right purpose with the right attitude. Do not just give because you want to be blessed. Do it out of love for God and His word. 2Corinthians 9:7 says “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” God will truly supply all our needs as a church and as individuals when we give out of a cheerful heart. If we want to truly experience the awesome power of God in our lives, we must support our missionaries through prayer and financially and let us make sure we do it with the right attitude and cheerfully, shall we?
