As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

About Ohana's Daily Devotional

Saturday, March 20, 2010

III John 1:5-8 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

Ohana has a testimony throughout the Pacific are as being a church that will bring missionaries “forward on their journey” whether they are coming from or going to the mission field. I am proud of this reputation and I hope that we will “abound yet more and more” (Philippians 1:9) in this ministry. Hawaii has often been called the crossroads of the Pacific because of its strategic location halfway between the U.S. mainland and the Far East. We are a strategic position to help our missionaries as they go forward into the Pacific region.

So what does it mean to bring them “forward on their journey”? It means helping them out in every way possible to make the trip better for tem as they pass through the islands and providing them with help once they get to where they are going. Here are some ideas of ways that you can help them:

• Give them a place to stay in your home when they are passing through.
• Have them over for a meal or take them out to eat.
• Take them out “touristing”.
• Take them out shopping. Offer to buy some of the things for them.
• Box and mail to them the things that they buy.
• Wash their clothes or polish their shoes.
• Babysit the children so they can have some time to themselves.
• Buy and mail them something they cannot get on the field.
• Write them a letter or send emails.
• Send a card or a package to their children.
• Read their prayer letter and then pray for them.

I am sure that you can come up with some ideas of you own. Use you talents and what God blessed you with to be a blessing to them. The important thing is do it faithfully, no just hear and there. Build a reputation of being a friend of missionaries!

Aloha in Christ,

Pastor Wayne
