Corinthians 15:51-58 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

As I read our passage I can pull two things that I am thankful for or that encourage me. The first thing that excites me is that Jesus is coming back for me. The Bible describes it as happening in the twinkling of an eye. We who are saved won’t have to live in this world full of sin anymore but will get to live glorious lives with Christ in heaven! Not only that but we will be receiving new bodies according to verse 53, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” We will have bodies that will no longer break down, have any defects, or any problems. No more need for all those horrible diets, hours in the gym, beauty products, and no more battling with the flesh because we will be made perfect and ready to live with Him for eternity.

Secondly, our passage shows me why to be even more thankful for Christ’s death on the cross. It says in verses 55-57, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” None of us could ever overcome the law. I mean to never have told a lie, to have never stolen, to have never disobeyed your parents, there’s no way but thanks to a Savior who makes salvation possible despite our shortcomings of the law. Praise the Lord for His salvation and for His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary.

Because of this Paul writes, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” Christ has given us so many reasons to never quit. Through Christ we are promised the victory. Always hang in there for in the end your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Love you all!

Pastor Mike
