As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Hebrews 4:11-16 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

In life we all have different experiences and different interest that allow us to relate to others. For myself; I enjoy watching college football, I enjoy learning the history of different wars, I like observing the art of preaching, and I love food! Whenever I meet with someone with like interest I can talk with them all day long about these topics. As a youth pastor, I am also able to use many of my life experiences to relate to the teens and other people that I work with. In life I have gone through my parent’s divorcing, an abusive father, my family living of food stamps for a while, and many other experiences that I can use to relate to the people I work with, people who too are struggling with what I used to go through and I am able to use my life experiences to help them. I have found that as you talk to people they really open up to you if you can really relate to them with whatever the situation is. You know, Christ can relate to us. Through our struggles and through our trials, Christ knows what it feels like and He can relate to you.

In Hebrews 4:13 it says, “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” The verse tells us here that Christ is omniscient in that He knows all and sees all and therefore we are held accountable for our actions and thoughts. God knows of everything that we have done behind closed doors and He knows of our most inner thoughts and we will answer for them. Many times we justify sin like doubt, worry, fear, or laziness whenever we become discouraged or whenever we go through a trial but these feelings are never justified because of our circumstances. We can never justify them because Jesus, our perfect example, never did.

Verse 15 tells us, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Jesus too went through trials and hardships as we do but instead of falling into sin such as backsliding, fearing, or feeling discouraged the Bible tells us that even through the testing He was yet without sin. Jesus can relate to every one of our hardships and every one of our trials. He is not a God out of tune with mankind but a God who understands our every need (Jeremiah 23:23). Are you feeling out of tune with God? Take it to Him in prayer as we find in verse 16. He knows just what you are going through and allow Him to be your counselor and we can be rest assured that we serve a God who is more up to date than Apple’s next invention.

Love you all!

Pastor Mike
