As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

II Corinthians 10:1-6 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
It is interesting that Paul starts out a passage on Christian warfare with the statement “I… beseech you by the meekness and grace of Christ”. It is easy to focus so much on the Spiritual battles that we face every day that we forget about the meekness (power under control) and the grace (giving us what we do not deserve) of Christ that is what the message of the Gospel is all about.
We have sometimes been called “Fighting Fundamentalists” because we take a strong stand for the Lord and His Word and are willing to do battle against Satan and the world as well as any compromise with the world. We should and must stand for what is right and be ready to go to battle for the truth, but we also need to start with “compassion… not rendering evil for evil … seek peace and ensue (pursue) it” (I Peter 3:8-12)
Over the course of this month we will be reading and meditating on passages of Scripture that call us into the battle. Remember that the “the battle is not yours, but God's.” (II Chronicles 20:15). These are not lessons about how to “war after the flesh” but how to win the battle over the flesh (Galatians 5:17) and against Satan and the world.
What are the weapons of our warfare?
Word of God (Hebrews 4:12), Prayer (I Kings 8:44), the Church (Matthew 16:18), Praise (II Chronicles 20:21-22), and the Armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Learn how to use these “smart weapons” to defeat the enemy before he is able to get close enough to do you any harm.
What are the “strong holds” that Satan has in your life?
Strong holds are when we have given “place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27) for him to fortify and attack us in other areas from. It is the besetting sins of our lives (Hebrews 12:1) and those areas that we have not allowed God to have full control of. As long as those continue, we can have no victory. Name three of these in your life.

Aloha in Christ,

Pastor Wayne
