As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Do you ever hate it whenever you forget something after you left the house, left the grocery store or left something behind at work? I sure do. I used to live in Mililani which is about a 30 minute drive to the church every morning and sometimes I would be driving and halfway to the church I would remember that I forgot my laptop or something important and have to make a U turn and go back. I had to go back because I need my laptop whenever I am at the church. I need my laptop to write messages, write my devotionals, check my email, and to do other important things. I don’t know what I would do without it!!! Is this our attitude whenever we go out into the world? I’m not talking about whenever your forget your laptop, or your briefcase, or your iPad but when it comes to facing the world do we bring the necessary tools to do the job. You would never dare go to work without wearing your proper uniform or the appropriate attire but do we dare go out into the world without putting on the necessary equipment?
Here in our passage found in Ephesians 6 we find a list of the armour of God, “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” As your employer sets guidelines for your dress to properly represent the business whenever you go into work, God sets His guidelines for His children whenever we go to work for Him. God sets these guidelines for us because Satan is coming after us. In verse 16 it tells us, “wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” The darts are coming and will you be ready for them?
Now obviously you cannot literally go out in public wearing a helmet, a breastplate or holding a shield or a sword without getting arrested but the Bible way of putting these on is found in verse 18, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” I used to travel with a ministry called Neighborhood Bible Time under the leadership of Larry Koontz and every morning he would stand in prayer, act like he was putting on a helmet, a breastplate and so forth while asking the Lord that these things would become real in his life. Are you daily putting on the armour of God? Is it so important to you that you make U turns whenever you forget? Perhaps you have been giving the devil the victory in your life because you’re going out to battle unprepared. Go out ready and go out swinging that sword.

Love you all!

Pastor Mike
