As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

1 Kings 22:3-8 (read to verse 38) "And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gelead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria? And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses. And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day, Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall forbearar? and they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king. And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him? And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so."
Three simple truths we must consider from our passage:
First of all; we must seek God’s will in everything we do and every decision we make. Matthew 6:33 says “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” Isaiah 55:6 reads “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” When was the last time you truly asked God for guidance and wisdom before making a major decision in your life? Or I should ask: Have you ever asked God for wisdom and guidance when making a decision whether big or small? Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Do you acknowledge God in all your ways?
We see here in our text that Jehoshaphat (king of Judah) was asked to go with Ahab (king of Israel) to fight against the king of Syria to take back Ra’moth in Gil’e-ad and Jehoshaphat's response was one we must follow. He said in verse 5 "And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.” Secondly; we must listen to what God says or what God wants us to hear. Hebrews 3:7-8 says “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, TO DAY IF YE WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, HARDEN NOT YOUR HEARTS, AS IN THE PROVOCATION, IN THE DAY OTEMPTATIONON IN THE WILDERNESS:” Do you listen to God’s voice and obey whatever He wants you to do or do you harden your heart and disobey Him? Do you accept whatever God wants you to hear? When Jehoshaphat asked that they seek God’s will first then Ahab called only the four hundred prophets because they always said whatever the king wanted them to say. He left one out because he did not want to hear the truth. Do you just go to those who will tell you what you want to hear? Or do you carefully and prayerfully go to those who will tell you what God wants you to hear base on His word?
Last but not the least; we must not dislike those who would tell us the truth from God’s holy word. Galatians 4:16 says “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? King Ahab hated the prophet Mi-ca’iah because he always told the truth and nothing but the whole truth. He did not even bother calling him a prophet when King Jehoshaphat asked if there was any other prophet. He said in verse 8 “There is yet a man, Mi-ca’iah the son of Im’lah, but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil” Do you like to hear the truth? John 8:32 says “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” Micaiah was not afraid of speaking the truth no matter how much the king hated him for because he knew that God will take care of him. Read Deuteronomy 32:35. He knew that the king will reap what he sows. Galatians 6:7 says “Be not deceived God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

In Christ,

Pastor Anter
