As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

II Kings 6:15-18 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

According to Mr. Webster, “host” means multitude or great number of persons or things; an army. As we read in our text, host would mean protection like how the host would protect his guest. Judges 19:16-24. Welcoming an protecting guest even if they are strangers was considered a sign of faithfulness.

In our everyday battle, we are aware that someone is watching us. He knows our needs and our longings. Isaiah 1:9 “Except the Lord of host had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.” God was referred to as the Lord of host, Lord Almighty. God takes care of us all the time and protecting us against our enemies. His Holy Spirit lives in us so we will never fail. Just trust in the Lord, stay in his power, he is able to deliver us. Just stay on his side and do not think that you will win the victory apart from his protection. Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble: and he knoweth them that trust in him.” Psalm 27:1 also says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid?” Brethren, you may be facing a difficult problem that you think you cannot handle, well trust God, he is the Host that is with you at all times. He is greater than your problems or your circumstances; he is greater that the Devil and he is able to give you victory.
