As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Ezekiel 22:23-31 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation. There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD
We as human beings like the idea of hearing others talking about us in a good way. We want people to say good things about us and so we try to do all we can to impress them. When people are watching we seem to act out best because we want them to tell others about us. We do that in sports, at school, at work, around our friends, & even at church. Please do not get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing good things or behaving ourselves when we are around others! In fact, the Bible clearly tells us in 1Sam. 18:5 “And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.” and in verse 14 it says “And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.” And the question is: Is God please with what we do.
In our text we see how God speaks of the Israelites. He talked about all the bad things they did and how displeased and disappointed He was with them. He has nothing good to say about them because they all did that which was right in their own eyes. Sadly, God did a search to see if there was someone whom He can use but found none. Verse 30 tells us that "And I sought for an man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none." I wonder if God were to look for someone from among us, would He finds me? These people thought they were doing the right thing. They were even preached about God but God said he never spoke to them. I think these people were good people from a human stand point but not in God's eye. There were prophets, priests, and, princes and we can say that they were serving God but the truth is they did not. God knew their hearts. So I ask you, are you truly serving God or you're just going to the motions? Galatians 6:7 says "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Let us serve God in truth with all our hearts. 1Sam.12:24 reads "Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all you heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you." Verse 25 says "But if ye shall do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king."
In Christ,
Pastor Anter
