As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

I Timothy 6:11-16 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Fighting the good fight of faith is not easy because we feel alone, discouraged, and at times feel that no one cares. However, we need to move on and defeat the Devil because we have the truth and we know that God cares. We also need to remember that there are Christians who are willing to stand and fight no matter what happens. Let us consider some of the following as we fight the good fight of faith:

1. We must be patient – A soldier that is impatient especially in the battlefield will be a casualty. II Timothy 2:3 “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” We are considered soldiers of the cross, therefore, let us learn to be patient. Let us learn to endure the trials of life and understand what the Lord wants us to do. Indeed, we are living in a busy world where everything is instant but that does not apply in our Christian life. We need to be patient in our devotions, in studying the Word of God, in serving the Lord, in going to church and in supporting the activities of the church. Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” We need to wait and be patient as we fight our enemy.
2. We must be prepared – We should not only be patient but we need to be prepared at all times by carefully planning our strategies against our enemy. First, we need to be ready to die by knowing that we have the Lord Jesus 100% in our hearts. Amos 4:12 “Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God.” A soldier needs to be ready to die for his country; as Christians we need to be ready to die and meet our Saviour any time he calls us home. If we are already saved and can say that we are ready to die, we also need to make sure that we are ready to face our trials and sufferings. These trials usually come to strengthen our faith, establish as strong relationship with Christ and give us a better future. Lastly, we need to be prepared to stand against the wiles of the Devil by consistently studying and memorizing the Word of God.
3. We must be prayerful – Someone once said that the Devil trembles when we pray. I encourage all of us then to be on our knees all the time so that we can defeat the Devil. How is your prayer life brothers and sisters? Can you honestly say that you have been consistent in your prayer life? If not, start praying now. Do not neglect prayer because it will give you strength to fight the good fight of faith. Fighting without prayer will lead to defeat and sufferings. Prayer should be like breathing. A dead person is without breath therefore a prayer less Christian is a dead Christian. It is simple, a dead Christian cannot fight. We therefore need prayer to keep us going. If you are struggling in your prayer life, ask God for forgiveness and guidance. Get back in prayer. Pray that God will forgive you, pray that God will help you to grow as a Christian and pray that God will use you as a channel of blessings to others.

Brethren, the battle is already won by the Lord when he died on the cross. Our enemy is already defeated; we just need to do our part by being patient, by being prepared and by being prayerful. Let us be brave, fight, and give God the glory. May God Bless You!

Pastor Andy
