As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Ephesians 4:20-32 But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

The differences in the Christian life versus the non-Christian life are obviously very different. By living the Christian life we draw closer to the Lord and vise versa living the non-Christian life will draw someone closer to Satan. Sounds kind of harsh huh? Well I have taught the teens in teen class that anytime we choose not to purposely live out the Christian life we will be living a life for Satan by default. There is no middle ground. Satan does not care who you serve or how you act or what you do as long as its not for God or Christ-like. Here in our passage we see many of the differences between the two ways of life.

Vs. 25 Wherefore putting away lying vs. speak every man truth with his neighbour

Vs. 28 Let him that stole steal no more vs. let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Vs. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth vs. but that which is good to the use of edifying

Vs. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice vs. Vs. 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you

Our passage can be broken up like a chart. In many of these differences there in no middle ground. Take v. 29 for instance; your mouth will either be used for corrupt communication or for edifying. There is no in between. We must purposely live out the things Christ desires of us or we will give place to the devil by default. It’s a battle within you between the Spirit and the Flesh and who will you give more ammo to?

Love you all!

Pastor Mike
