The Ohana Daily Devotional is intended as a supplement to our annual devotional book. We encourage you to pick one up at the church if you do not already have one. The email goes out each morning to all those who have requested it. It is also available here, for those who prefer to visit our site to read it, or if you would like to catch up on past days devotionals.
If you would like to receive a copy each morning in your email, or you may also subscribe to our RSS Feed.
Psalm 33:1-6 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise. For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
I sing like I am in jail – I am always a few bars behind, searching for the key! I am glad that the Bible says to “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD” (Psalm 100:1). The word “joyful” literally means “to split the ears”. I often hear people use the excuse that they cannot sing or that they have a terrible voice. God tells us that even if you are bad enough to split someone’s ear drums, you should still sing. (Besides that, you cannot be any worse than Pastor Mike, and he has not damaged anyone’s hearing yet – at least I think he has not!).
Music should be an important part of your Christian life. Just about every passage that talks about being Spirit filled and godly also talks about music (i.e. – Ephesians 5:18-20, Colossians 3:15-17, Psalm 100, etc). I believe that spiritual people will enjoy Christian music, and listening to Christian music will help to make you more spiritual.
Our passage says that we should sing songs and play them on instruments. We have many good instrumentalists in our church (by the way, if you can play an instrument then you should be playing in our orchestra for church!), and I am thankful for their ability and how they are using their talent for the Lord. Unfortunately, not all of us have learned how to play the violin or the saxophone, but there is one instrument that everyone can play and play well – A CD or MP3 player!
It takes very little practice or discipline, and it can give great pleasure and benefit. Why not make a CD or MP3 player a part of your devotions. You can listen to some inspiring music before, after, or during your devotions. Purchase a hymnbook and you can sing along. Music will enhance and enrich your devotional life. Start using it today!
P.S. – To help you get started in this area, all of our music CD’s will be 10% off this Sunday. Stock up!
