As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Proverbs 30:5-6 “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

The emphasis of our devotion for the month of July is about the Bible – the Word of truth, the Word of God. It is the foundation of our faith and practice as believers. God becomes real to us through His words- the Bible. To trust His words means that He is safety and a buckler to those who believe on Him. By His words, He reveals Himself, His mind and His will; it teaches us how to live, therefore we need to rely upon it all the time.

Let us look at three truths regarding the Bible.

1. The Bible is pure- Every word of God is pure and there is no mixture of corruption or falsehood. There is no deficiency in it at all. Psalm 12:6 says, “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in furnace of earth, purified seven times.” Psalm 119:140 “Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.” It is sure, and therefore we must trust it and endeavor our souls upon it. God in His word, God in His promise, is a shield, a sure protection, to all those that put themselves under His protection and put their trust in Him. If we believe by faith, the word of God will make our burdens easier to bear in the midst of the greatest dangers. Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a present help in trouble.” It is sufficient, and therefore we must not add to it (verse 6) “Add thou not unto his words, because they are pure and perfect.”

2. The Bible is the precious Word of God – precious because it shows us how to have eternal life, it shows us how to live our life to the fullest while we are still here on earth, and it also gives us peace and comfort in times of trouble. John 6:68 says, “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” Philippians 2:16”Holding forth the word of life: that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” Matthew 11: 28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon, you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest into your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” God’s word is indeed precious; you can never find any other book in the whole world that talks about all of these- only in the Word of God.

3. The Bible is powerful – powerful because it can change lives. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The Bible is undeniably powerful, hence, if you believe it, study it, and apply it in your lives you will not wonder along life’s pathway.

Brethren, study the word of God today and keep it in your heart. Psalm 119:103 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” God Bless!

Pastor Andy
