As you point out, Pastor Mike, today's passage is much deeper than most people think. It is a wonderful verse to take the time to ponder. Let us go to a quiet place with this verse, and invite our hearts and minds to reflect upon the deep meaning that the Holy Spirit wants us to learn. Thank you for giving us a nudge to do just that.

We try to also use the "presence gauge" of Jesus Himself: "Would I do this thing if Jesus was visibly sitting right next to me?" His Spirit is, after all, right here inside of us believers. Another challenging gauge that helps us is: "Would I want to be doing this, if Jesus came back at this very moment to take us to Heaven?" We miss Hawaii and send everyone our aloha from Virginia

Matthew 4:4- “But HE answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of GOD.”

1 Peter 2:1-3-”Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the WORD, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the LORD is gracious.”

Hebrew 5:11-14- “Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the WORD of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

A human must have food...or he will die. Furthermore, each human must have healthy food, or he will become sickly and eventually die. Spiritual health for the Christian is the same way; the Christian must have healthy food, or he cannot survive.

Healthy food gives energy...GOD's WORD gives spiritual motivation and energy. Good food promotes health...GOD's WORD gives spiritual health! Healthy food encourages growth, and the BIBLE does the same thing for the Christian who studies IT. Food can also give comfort and pleasure, and the BIBLE offers that too!

Everyone needs to eat...and every Believer needs the BIBLE.

As has been seen in the texts for the day, the BIBLE can be compared to milk, bread, and water:

Milk- The primary source of nourishment for the very young, and still a great source of nutrition for the more mature! Milk provides basic nutrition as well as antibodies to guard from disease and also promotes general health and muscle growth. The basics of the BIBLE do the same for the Believer. Just a basic study, a general reading and meditation, is an immense help to spiritual well being.

Bread- Best when fresh! Bread gives vitamins and carbohydrates, which are helpful to nutrition and energy. It is not appetizing if it is stale! The Christian who reads his BIBLE just to check it off on his “to do list” will develop a stale walk with GOD. If bread is in an undesirable environment (moist places), then it will become moldy and be useless. A Christian who eats of the WORD of GOD but stays in the moist and sticky environment of the world will not contaminate the BREAD, but he himself will be poisoned despite the fact he had the BREAD!

Meat- Scientists at Oxford University in England have discovered that a meat-free diet may be bad for your brain! Without essential nutrition provided by meat, it is more probable that one may incur brain shrinkage and eventually have struggle with memory loss. That's definitely not healthy! Also, meat gives yet more protein and basic nutrition helpful to growth and general health.
On top of that, meat tastes amazing and makes me smile!

As has been observed, meat may be compared to literal foods; however, the BIBLE has a quality that food does not have at all. The BIBLE is supernatural and is always good to have! If one goes to a buffet, he can only eat so much before that meal becomes unhealthy. Man only has the ability to ingest so much food. The BIBLE is the infinite BOOK and is like an unending buffet...except it is always healthy!

Sit at the table and enjoy the meal...eat of GOD's WORD everyday.
