Colossians 3:12-17 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

It should be known of our lives that we are Christians. We should not have to wear name tags that say, “Hello, I am a Christian” but rather, people should be able to tell it, after perhaps, talking to us or observing us for any given amount of time. I recently read a quote from E.M Bounds the other day which said, “The world judges religion not by what the Bible says, but by how Christians live.” Another way I have heard it put is, “Many times, we will be the only Bible people will ever read.” Because of this, we as Christians need to be doing what we see here in verse 16 of our passage when it says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”

What verse 16 is telling us is that; we need to allow God’s Word to completely fill up our lives and to have a deep understanding of His Word. We do not need to just have a head knowledge of God but a heart knowledge as well. Many people today, read their Bibles as they would read a newspaper or a random magazine, but it should be so much more to them. We should rather read our Bibles as a recipe book; following it, eating it up, and using it again and again in our lives. As following a recipe will give you a result, likewise when we are following God’s Word we will also have a result. In our surrounding verses, we see some fruits of those who let the word of Christ dwell in them; kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, charity, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Can these attributes be said of you? If it is true and the only Bible people will ever read is us, than what are we giving them to read? Are you going to Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly?

Love you all!

Pastor Mike
