Hebrews 4:11-16 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

The Bible in our passage is described as being sharper than any twoedged sword. I am sure back in the day, that was the most state of the art weapon of their time. Now a days we would probably liken it to perhaps a rail gun on a Naval ship or a jdlfjdlfjaldjl. I believe the author of Hebrews uses this analogy to help us understand the true power of God’s Word.

The Word of God is described to have the power of piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Have you ever heard the term when someone is hurt by someone else’s words, “Your words cut me deep?” Of course we know this to be a metaphor of words reaching deep into our hearts and likewise God’s Word has the power to reach deep within us.

Does God’s Word reach within your heart? If your answer is no, there is nothing wrong with the Word of God, it is because you have set up a blockade around your heart. You are like the people described in Jeremiah 8:9, “they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?” Does the preaching of God’s Word still convict you? Do your devotions still challenge you? If not, go to Him in prayer and tear down the walls that you have set up that keeps Him from working within your life.

Love you all!
