God has given us a down-payment of salvation. The Holy Spirit is the earnest of our down payment that He is going to return to complete the redemption of getting christians to heaven. When you become saved, the Holy Spirit comes into your life. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God and a gift has no requirement(Ephesians 2:8,9). Absence of the Holy Spirit means you're unsaved. We're born sinners and the natural man can't understand Christ. If you've lost the Holy Spirit, you've lost your salvation. You need to obey and trust God in order to be saved. To be anointed is to have the Holy Spirit indwelling in you. The Emphasis of the Holy Spirit is to teach. We need to take the responsibility to learn. You don't receive the Holy Spirit when you get baptized. You receive the Holy Spirit when you get saved. Baptism is mentioned 11 times in the bible.
